An election for the four elected members of MCNZ was held at the beginning of this year, and the names claimed to be the "four highest-polling candidates" submitted to Associate Minister of Health Matt Doocey for appointment to the Council. In contrast to normal practice, the actual vote tallies (in the form of the single transferable vote iteration report, was never released, and attempts to access it have been refused. It is apparently "confidential".
This must lead to strong suspicion that the actual election results have been ignored to avoid anyone critical of the CEO's position getting on to the Council.

The tortuous machinations of the Medical Council NZ (bad enough as they are) would not be possible in an arrhythmic heart beat had the wider profession not long since succumbed to income-linked-diktat and the wider perturbations of ideological fuelled nonsense (such is the incremental 'march through the institutions') driven by a veritable legion of institutionalised medical imposters variably removed from 'health' whether politicians, bureaucrats, ACC, HBs, MedCouncil, Colleges, Insurance entities and let's not omit, BigPharma, all apparently and irretrievably addicted to and competing for their slice of action and control. So when questioning a general practice colleague about the shots, his paraphrased answer, 'it's above my pay grade....it's not for me to question, I do what I am told'.
On the other hand, had a legion of thoughtful, ethical and reasonably grounded in critical thinking doctors stepped back from the obvious pretence of providing "fully informed consent" it would have been game over, pronto finale, and Medical Council, Uncle Tom Cobbly n'all would have been reduced to impotence. A small number did and NZDSOS was born.
The 'game over' charade was apparently demonstrated by a significant number of surgeons and physicians in New Zealand who were obviously sufficiently alert to apparently play the authorities at their own game and with the likely threat of walking off the job, broke the authoritarian hold and the political license.
