About Sue Grey LlB(Hons), BSc(Biochemistry and Microbiology), RSHDipPHI
Co-Leader NZ Outdoors and Freedom Party, mother of three "woke" young adults, lifelong adventurer
I grew up in mainly Nelson, after my parents moved here from UK when I was 8. I was a shy but high achieving all rounder at school.
I headed south to Canterbury to study science then to Dunedin to do a double major in biochemistry and microbiology. I was employed by the Department of Heath to train and work as a health protection officer with my work including investigating infectious diseases and contract tracing. I started studying law part time while I worked in public and environmental health, then studied full time and graduated in law with Honours. I found law easy after science, and won many law prizes including Kensington Swan Scholarship for outstanding all round student, and then represented NZ in the Jessup Moot competition in Washington DC. I worked for mega firm Simpson Grierson for a few years, then solo backpacked for a year through Asia and Europe, ending up working for Baker & McKenzie in London.
I turned down a big pharmaceutical litigation project, and came back to NZ to have my three kids.
After realising that some of my legally aided clients earned more than I did as a part time lawyer, I set up my own firm. Then I became partner in a specialist Fisheries practice, until I left to have my third child . I enjoyed working as Nelson Marlborough Conservancy Solicitor for DOC for two years as part of the senior management team. Soon after being tagged to take over as Conservator, I was fired for challenging a Supreme Court judge who owned a racehorse stud with the QC for the other party. I experienced the wrath of the highest levels of government and was fired for having an alleged conflict by raising the issue. The Supreme Court at its second attempt decided Justice Wilson had apparent bias due to his indirect indebtedness to Alan Galbraith QC ( he had to borrow from the BNZ and had his debt guaranteed by Galbraith to keep up with his share of the costs of running Rich Hill Stud).I later discovered Wilson J had been protected by his "close friend" the Attorney General Finlayson during the court processes. Eventually Wilson J was forced to resign - a first for such a senior judge and a bad start for NZ’s new Supreme Court.
I started again from scratch as a solo mum with three kids and built up my unique law practice specialising in complex emerging issues. I've worked for many niche businesses, including on a dam that needed emergency dewatering after the Seddon earthquakes, for NZs shark cage dive businesses and many other novel resource, permit allocation, human rights issues) and for community groups challenging abuse of power via the courts, media ( in the old days when they helped) , political inquiries and people power.
I've been co leader of NZ Outdoors and Freedom Party for the last few years. 5% voted for me in the Tauranga by election despite me not being a local,, thanks to amazing support from out team.
I'm now trying hard to connect pro freedom groups to offer a freedom and democracy option ahead of the 2023 election so we can reclaim our food, water, body sovereignty, and other freedoms and democracy from globalist control!
