Right after Argentina's victory in the Copa America final over Columbia, the two goalies hugged. Wasn't that exemplary?

Thank you both for offering us this wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable respite! I loved every word! Both of you are fabulous! Thank you, thank you! Cookie Rojas, #16 for the Phillies! Where is that poem?

South African Sydney Maree, the NCAA Villanova Wildcats middle distance runner, the national and international champion, nearly didn't make the big time in 1983 ... Why? My attendance at Villanova University overlapped his, and one day, I happened upon him as he was running on North Ithan Avenue, a narrow road across from the Stadium. I was drivng on Ithan and nearly ran him over with my car. It was instantaneous how he gave me an angry look, and I responded with an apologetic grimace. I am thankful the gods intervened that day! Perhaps it wasn't as bad as I thought it was, but I sure got scared.

I have one more comment: A young man, a relative of mine, is an NCAA Ice Hockey goalie. His freshman year was in 2020, during the terrible lockdown we had. The team he played for is known for its toughness, and the coach was a tough but fair man. In 2020, during an away game, one of the players was diagnosed with Covid-19, and a few other players began to show Covid symptoms, although they didn't get sick. However, something happened to the coach after this crisis: He lost his characteristic toughness and turned into a benevolent, caring fellow. In a team that insisted on toughness all around, this change in character was unacceptable. The man had spent 30 years coaching both professional and college hockey. He'd been a finalist for NHL coach of the year. He was an accomplished and admired coach. However, during the 2021 season, he was forced to retire (for being nice) and his replacement was a mean, viciously mean, and rough individual.

I'm waiting for that baseball poem, and once again, thank you very much for this wonderful interlude!

What a wonderful commentary, thank you! I'm afraid that poem is forever lost to the mists of time ... and I gave away the baseball autographed by Cookie Rojas to a friend who was moving out of our neighborhood. Ice hockey goalie may well be THE most difficult position in all of sports .... and coaches can make or break a person. Good thing you missed Maree at Villanova!!!
