Is there, or has there ever been, an ideal group?

Maybe not perfectly, but I have seen some models which are close to ideal. Particularly in pirates. Or some of the pirates of the golden ages had or possessed a very flexible, dynamic democratic system and hierarchy for both times of peace and in battle. They had articles and codes of conduct. A captain and a counter balance to his authority as a quarter master. Methods of electing and overthrowing greedy or corrupt officers if they over indulged in power or were cruel. Yet an understanding of when and why such as in battle, a single authority (the captain) was important and not to be challenged.

My thinking. Why reinvent the wheel. If a system like that can be recycled and recreated. Use it.
