A Letter to the Dominion Post 27 March 2020
from the depths of the first lockdown
While searching through my email archives in preparation for an upcoming speech, I discovered the following letter. I have corrected a few typos to spare readers. I thought it would be of interest, given that it was written while in the midst of a New Zealand style lockdown, our first. The letter was never published by the Wellington newspaper to whom it was submitted (The Dominion Post).

While all of New Zealand is now locked down in a Draconian deprivation of human rights and liberty, ostensibly imposed to save lives, it is well to remind ourselves of some important facts, namely, that "The data collected so far on how many people are infected and how the epidemic is evolving are utterly unreliable....Reported case fatality rates, like the official 3.4% rate from the World Health Organization, cause horror — and are meaningless" as Stanford Professor of Epidemiology John Ioannidis wrote on 17 March in Stat (https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/a-fiasco-in-the-making-as-the-coronavirus-pandemic-takes-hold-we-are-making-decisions-without-reliable-data/).
As a working psychiatrist I am made keenly aware of the effects of social deprivation upon patients whose illnesses are severely exacerbated by isolation. I am also keenly aware of the effects of loss of liberty among the general population, loss of the ability to meet, to venture outside their neighbourhoods, and in general to enjoy what being human is all about.
So let's ask ourselves: is the lockdown worth it? Has it been undertaken and implemented hastily and without real evidence? And will the Government begin to decide that with each seasonal flu a similar lockdown will be necessary to 'save lives' over and over again? Does this virus really warrant a national emergency?
As the data begin to pour in, we are seeing a different story: the 'lethality' of the virus has been overestimated. We will begin to find more and more that many healthy people are asymptomatic carriers of the virus.
Most disturbing in all of this is that people seem so eager to sacrifice human rights because a government has given its word -- with the threat of force -- that this is right and proper. I have more sympathy now for those Germans and Italians in the 1930s who submitted to regimes in a not so dissimilar fashion. A slippery slope, a very slippery slope.

It was and continues to be one of worst evils perpetrated on humanity, like Robert Kennedy Jr. said ..."there are things worse than death". So many deaths and disabilities from the "vaccine", so much trauma from being caged and impounded, policed, segregated and isolated, wearing masks and loss of freedoms of daily life, jobs and income. Those traumas are still being lived out today and so many people are sick as a result of all this. We all need healing and determination, as Florida has recently legislated, warnings and to never do this again. Compensation to those harmed is due but on the taxpayers back? NO. Let those who made billions pay for it all and bring healing and balance back to a very challenged world.
You nailed it Doc and did your best to reach others with a message of reason. My wife has recurrent ovarian cancer and will likely soon die of it. I read some studies pointed to by Dr Makis on how ivermectin blocks cancer cells from abusing a number of key physiologic pathways. Well do you think any Drs will prescribe it off label...... no they are afraid..... afraid of the corrupt NAZI Medical Council of NZ. I tried to get some from India, $180 we paid and it was seized at the border and I recieved a letter from Medsafe, another corrupted outfit financially entangled with Pharma, I was informed that I was breaking the law in trying to extend my wife's life, but then, they don't care about our lives, they WANT us sick and dying, to destroy the Western world with their sick 4th reich.
Anyway, it's all very stressful, but a recent exposé of FBI tactics revealed a key antidote to all this, an antidote to fear, and it is humour. Zuckerburg in his statement to Senate reps stated that among other things, any humour or funny memes surrounding Covid or the contradictory. nature of the authorities was to be censored, there it is, Laughter, laughter at their stupidity and moral bankruptcy is the best medicine of all. Really, what else can you do, they are a joke, even the murderous medical council of NZ is a complete and utter joke!
